I’m a cat person. I know many people who are besotted with their dogs – about 90% of all Britons, judging by the numbers of dogs everywhere – but I just don’t get it. In fact, I get positively annoyed by dog owners who don’t clean up after their dogs or who seem to think it’s funny when their wet and muddy little rats jump up on strangers leaving wet and muddy footprints on what was clean clothing. Grrrrrr!
On the other hand, I love cats – though, I admit, these days I am frequently torn between my love of cats and my love of birds, the former being frequently the killers of the latter. Still, I love cats and would love to have one but my living arrangements prevent that. So, when I’m out walking I often spend time talking to the cats I meet along the way – lurking in long grass, keeping look-out from rooftops, guarding the wheelies, controlling the traffic, sunning on window sills, communing with spirits in the graveyard, and that battered and bruised old Tom patrolling the local patch.
Gorgeous. I’m a cat person too and am not overly fond of most dogs (apart from a few. I’m a sucker for cocker spaniels but possibly because we had one when I was a child). But alas, I have a (physical) allergy to cats so I can’t keep one, either. So, also like you, I make the most of other people’s. 🙂
Our neiighbour had a cat til about a year ago and she’d come to our garden and patio and we became terribly fond of her and we were gutted when they suddenly had her rehomed.
There are a few other cats round here but I wouldn’t say they are particularly lovable as they are, in the main, farm cats that are kept by their owners to keep down the rodent population and they tend to have unpleasant attitudes (the cats, The farmers might too but I’ve only met one or two!)

I don’t understand rehoming – for me, if you choose to have a pet, then you’re making a commitment for that pet’s lifetime. At least they didn’t have the cat put down.
I have no experience of farm cats but I guess they’re like farm dogs – workers, not pets.

They rehomed it because their grandchild was bitten by it and had a severe allergic reaction… but I agree with you in most circumstances. I just hope she went to a good home. She was a gorgeous cat – unusually, a female ginger (they’re most often male, I gather).

Ah yes, that is unusual. And I shouldn’t have made such a hasty judgment – I can certanly understand their decision in those circumstances. 🙂

Those photos are beautiful! And I think I may have gathered most of the feline community around me looking at your number xD

Lovely portraits! For me, dogs are the killers… Having lost several cats, rabbits and chickens to their hunting instinct, I’m getting increasingly angry with people who let their dogs run free… My cars hunt mice, which is a good thing. But I agree with you on the birds, it’s a problem… X

Thank you.
I’ve also had a cat savaged by a dog – luckily, she lived to tell the tale – but there’s also the problem with them killing sheep in the countryside.
I think the problem though is the owners, rather than the dogs. They don’t train or control their dogs properly, and the laws relating to dog control in Britain are very slack compared to some countries.

Oh yes! The owners don’t realise what their lovely pooch is capable of. Not because he’s an evil dog, but just because he’s a dog, and that’s what they do. I’ve had people telling me: “Oh, she just wants to play!” while their dog was efficiently killing off my young guinea fowl… I’ve begged them to restrict their dog’s freedom, but they refuse. The dog is still loose. Argh!! But I don’t hate the dog – she’s cute. She just has hunting instinct…

Exactly … but sorry to hear you’re losing creatures to this dog. I think I’d be taking action against these people if I were you.

Long story 😉 It’s better now the guinea fowl have grown and can fly well!

Although I also like cats, I get equally annoyed with cat owners who seem to be ignorant of the fact that their ‘independent’ pet is a nuisance to their neighbours.

I can certainly understand that, Joyce. Cats seem often to use neighbours’ gardens as their toilet facilities.

Well of course you know I will love this one. I like the way your banner photo changes. Have you got is set up to do that or do you do it manually?

A fellow cat person, of course!
The header change is on auto – go to themes / customise and choose the header option. I uploaded some images (after checking that they would suit the thin landscape format) and then set it to randomise. 🙂
