The sun rises over the Serengeti Plains, Tanzania, August 2014
‘Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature – the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.’
Rachel Carson (1907-1964) was an American marine biologist and conservationist. This quote is taken from her seminal work Silent Spring, 1962.
Glorious sunrise. If we had one like that in North Wales folk would think the end of the world was nigh!

Hehe … I think we get the occasional nice sunrise down here, Theresa, but I admit I don’t get up that early most of the time. However, I’m moving closer to the seaside very soon and hoping that might provide a nice photo opportunity or two, plus this is the best time of year for sunrise photos – don’t have to get up too early!

I’m not saying we don’t get lovely sunrises, we do indeed, but of the more subtle, gently golden variety variety! I can see a bit of distant sea from a window of my flat, luckily the bit where the sun rises before slipping behind the hills and trees. Something for you to look forward to in your new location, or maybe sunsets? Happy moving!

I keep forgetting your Welsh and know these locations. I’m moving to Penarth – not right on the seafront – not that rich! But a short walk to the coast so, yes, sunrises and sunsets, I’m hoping!
And thanks … lists, lists, lists at the moment. 🙂

Lovely Anne. Rachel Carson is an absolute hero. I highly recommend her new biography by Linda Lear. Carson suffered so much both physically and mentally to secure the publication of Silent Spring. It was nature which kept her going.

Thanks for that recommendation, Catherine. I’ll definitely take a look. 🙂
