Wanting to have more houseplants in my flat and knowing that Spider plants (Chlorophytum comosum) are very easy to grow, I … ahem … pinched a couple of spiderlings from a much neglected plant in the office toilet and popped them into some water to get them started. I knew they would quickly develop roots but their speed amazed me. The photos below show their development after 2 days, 4 days, 6 days, and 16 days. Time to buy some potting mix, me thinks!

Great plants aren’t they? In the top 5 houseplants for absorbing nasty stuff from the air in our homes apparently. I always had these plants too, even took one to Spain where I planted it out in the garden in a shady spot and it thrived! Must get another, thanks for the memory!

Absorbing nasty stuff is good! Seems many people have good memories of these. π

Oh, Annie, I have been wanting to find a spider plant for ages. They were always one of my houseplants for years but then I lost/dumped them, I can’t remember exactly. They do proliferate readily but I haven’t seen them for sale anywhere for some time. I am envious.

Perhaps they’re not as popular as they once were? When mine gets going and produces its own spiderlings, I’ll send you one. π
