Forest Farm Nature Reserve, a few days ago …

Nuthatch: ‘Oi, you there. The lady with the camera.’
Me: ‘Well, hello to you too, nuthatch. How’re you doing today?’

Nuthatch: ‘Never mind the pleasantries. Where’re the sunflower seeds? Don’t ya know I prefer sunflower seeds?’
Me: ‘Sorry, I don’t have any seeds.’

Nuthatch: ‘Well, if you want photos, you’ve gotta pay, y’know. Is this my best side?’
Me: ‘You’re very demanding. Yes, very handsome.’

Nuthatch: ‘Sunflower seeds or nyjer seeds are best. I’ll take this stuff if I have to but I prefer the seeds.’
Me: ‘I’ll make sure I bring payment next time. I like your bling.’

Nuthatch: ‘The bling? Well, I would’ve preferred black m’self but they don’t give you a choice, y’know.’
Me: ‘Silver goes well with your colouring. Thanks for the photos. ’Til next time.’
I too love the Nuthatch, great images. BTW, did you know that if you can get a good close-up of a ring number you can report it to the BTO? They like to get data for ringed birds’ ranges and can pick up where it was ringed & when. This is the link http://www.bto.org/volunteer-surveys/ringing

Hi Theresa, and thanks. Yes, I’ve reported rings before but find these silver / grey ones mostly too hard to read. The multi-coloured ones are so much easier. 🙂

Awww. Love nuthatches. They are kind of shy, though. Am hoping to get a DSLR camera at some point, so I can take some decent bird photos myself.

They are lovely, Debbie, and a bit skittish, but these are more used to being fed. I don’t have an expensive camera but having a long lens helps with the bird photos – and mine’s not long enough! 🙂
