As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I spent a wonderful day on Saturday exploring and examining some of the town of Barry’s wilder green spaces with members of the Glamorgan Botany Group. But, of course, you can’t spend a whole day looking at plants without also seeing an awful lot of the critters that live on those plants and I admit to being a trifle distracted at times … by a sunshine-yellow Crab spider, by fluttering butterflies and buzzing hoverflies, by plentiful dock and shield bugs, by the sad sight of a dead Slow-worm. Some of the lovely old stone houses and churches we passed were pretty cool too!
Lovely. I am especially taken by the yellow crab spider! We get these (though not in yellow) in our house sometimes. There’s one I meet on the stairs on occasion. 🙂

I’d never seen a yellow one either. Someone said they take on the colour of their surroundings so maybe it has been sitting on a dandelion. 🙂

Maybe it’s why the one on our bannisters was brown and so hard to see. 🙂 I love the idea of a yellow crab spider in a dandelion.

I’ve seen a white one in a bindweed flower. I’m going to have to see how many different colours I can find now. 🙂

Lovely collection, Annie. Which lens do you use on a day out like this, or do you change lenses?

Thanks, Joyce. I had my standard kit lens 18-55mm on, but then I use a Raynox extender that I can easily take on and off for the macros.
