I saw my first Meadow brown (Maniola jurtina) and Ringlet (Aphantopus hyperantus) butterflies of the year at Cosmeston last week. And now there seem to be hundreds of Meadow Browns everywhere, though not so many Ringlets. Such pretty little things.

Lovely! We’ve just been watching our first Monarch of the season on some milkweed in the back garden. A hummingbird started sipping the nectar from a vine overhead, then they both started chasing each other away and coming back when they thought the other had gone. It was surprising to watch them interacting.

Oh how lovely! I guess that nectar must taste really really good! 🙂

Lovely! I love our ‘brown’ butterflies that come forth with the summer. There are a few out and about up here, but nothing like as many as there should be.

Numbers do seem to be down this year – not sure why.
