So this is what all yesterday’s gull screeching was about!
Mr Lesser black-backed gull was letting the neighbourhood know he had arrived and this was his territory so look out any other gull couples who thought they’d try to muscle in. And today Mr LBB and his mate were getting down to the serious business of nest building amongst the chimney pots across the back lane from my flat – or, at least, Ms LBB was – he just stood watching her do all the work. I do hope the nest goes ahead – what a thrill it would be to watch from my bedroom window as they raise their chicks!

You’ll enjoy watching the gulls raising their family, although they are very noisy neighbours and early risers! They are amazing parents – I wrote about the Herring Gulls that nest every year on my daughter’s roof some years ago- one of their babes fell out of the nest onto the flat roof below when it was quite small and they carried on looking after it and its sibling still in the nest until it was old enough to fend for itself.

That sounds magical, Theresa. My lot haven’t settled down yet – they’ve been showing some bonding behaviour and been back at the nest several times that I’ve seen but she’s not yet sitting. I do hope they will. 🙂

Yes, it is similar here too. I reall dislike winds, they enervate me and I can never settle to do anything until they abate. I hope the nesting continues.

No sign of them today … but it’s still blowing a gale here and I’ve hardly seen any birds at all today.

Same here, except for a flock of Crows flying backward…

What a great set of shots! I hope they settle there for you.

Thanks. I’m a bit concerned that Storm Hannah might blow this away and/or put them off. Our winds are meant to get rather strong.
