Most of the scabious I see in local parks and reserves is Devil’s-bit but there is a small area of Field scabious (Knautia arvensis) at Cosmeston Lakes Country Park. The insects love it for its nectar and the birds, in autumn, for its seeds. Can you see what’s lurking on the stem?
There used to be goodly amount of it here but I don’t see it so much any more. Which is a shame since it it a beautiful plant.
I can’t make out what is on the stem…

It is indeed a pretty plant. The critter was a Common froghopper, I think.

Now you point it out, I do! I found a greenfly today on a picture of a dahlia when I was examining it up close, but once I lost it, I couldn’t find it again.
