I’ve seen a few Grass snakes before but only when I’ve been on organised reptile rambles so I wasn’t entirely sure whether this quite small, sadly deceased creature was a Grass snake or a Slow worm. My Twitter pals quickly confirmed it was indeed a snake.
I found it in a local lane during this morning’s walk. It must have been basking in the sun when it was run over by a passing vehicle. Isn’t its skin amazing?
Aw that’s sad. 😦 Hopefully he can at least be a good meal for someone?
I once tried to rescue a garter snake I believe had been run over by taking it to wildlife rehab, but unfortunately he didn’t make it.

It was sad. Not sure what might eat it – a bird perhaps? Good on you for trying to rescue that snake – at least you tried! 🙂

it’s skin might be amazing but it’s tragic that he was run over, that overshadows everything. Nature doesn’t want us to go back to normal.

I don’t want us to go back to the old normal either. 🙂

A friend said he was surprised to see this as they’re usually very alert and move quickly away from potential danger. Perhaps it was already sickly.

Very sad that it had to die, poor thing. But yes, very interesting.

Yes, I would much rather have seen it alive.
