When I’m out walking at the moment, it seems that everywhere I look, I see red …

I see red

I see red

I see red

I see re-e-ed

As a test, I asked Google AI why so many berries are coloured red! The answers were very comprehensive! I won’t regurgitate them here. But the beetle is doing something different. Using red as an aposematic repellant rather than red as an attractant for dispersal.😁 Not sure about the gall?!

Hi Ray. I hope to read a future blog from you on why berries are red. 🙂 My guess would be that the colour is attractive to birds and so aids in seed dispersal, as you mention. Maybe the gall colour is a by-product of / reaction to the chemical used by the larvae?
