Another new butterfly species for the year, the Holly blue!
This individual is actually the second one I’ve seen – the first was up and over the bushes and trees too quickly for me to grab a photo but this little lovely was flying slowly from spot to spot along a grassy slope so I was able to enjoy its beauty and get a couple of images. There’s just something very special about blue butterflies and the Holly blue is usually the first of the year to emerge.
None of them match what I saw! I shall keep on looking.

I’m glad to be living in Halifax but I do miss butterflies. For much of the year, when I lived in Dorset, if I wanted to see a butterfly, all I needed to do would be to step out of the house and they were just ‘there’. I’ve swapped them for miles of walls. I like the walls but I’m extra pleased now to see other people’s butterflies!

Do you mean Halifax in Yorkshire? Yes, I imagine it has its own kind of beauty but I think I see what you mean about the lack of butterflies. There’ll be plenty of photos of butterflies here over the coming months, I hope. 🙂

Yes. I moved to Halifax in West Yorkshire a couple of years ago. And at the same time moved blogs from ‘Loose and Leafy in Dorset’ to ‘Loose and Leafy in Halifax’. https://looseandleafyinhalifax.blogspot.com/

How lovely. I was watching a little white butterfly today but cannot identify it. I assumed that it was a Small White but the underside of the wings doesn’t match what I can see online.
I also saw two Bee Flies, such pretty things and yes, I do know what they do…

Though I’ve only seen a Small white, I’ve seen reports of all the whites out now so yours could be one of four species.
Yes, bee-flies – cute but!
