British wildflowers, Cwm George, Herb Paris, Herb-Paris, Paris quadrifolia, wildflower, woodland wildflowers

I’ve written about Herb-Paris (Paris quadrifolia) a couple of times before (Herb-Paris, May 2017 and Devil-in-a-bush, April 2021) but it’s such a lovely and unusual plant that I feel it deserves another post, this time primarily of images that I captured when I went on my annual Herb-Paris pilgrimage to Cwm George woodland, in Dinas Powys, earlier this week.

I’ve shown you this beautiful location several times before – this is Cwm George, in the small south Wales town of Dinas Powys – but I simply can’t resist sharing this year’s late autumn splendour. I couldn’t decide which view I liked best, so I’ve included three images, each one zooming in to the scene a little further. I hope you have somewhere magical like this to enjoy, to wander through, to escape into.

I can’t believe it’s almost a year since I visited Cwm George. Luckily, I now live much nearer to this magnificent woodland so I’ll definitely be going back more often. I had a long walk here on Thursday with my friend Hilary, chatting and botanising and soaking in the beauty of the wild garlic and the bluebells and so much more.

This walk, called Salmon Leaps, is one of eight in the Vale of Glamorgan for which there are downloadable pamphlets available (see here for this one). Locals say there haven’t been salmon in these streams for years but don’t let that put you off. Ours was a variation of the routes in the brochure but with much of the same picturesque scenery. Let me show you me some of the highlights …
